There are many European rules, which affect the travel of people within and to Europe.
Visa policy
The European rules on Visas lay down the conditions and procedures for the processing of visa applications of third country nationals.
Recently the European Commission proposed a Regulation establishing a Community Code for Visas, which involves the increase of Visa fees, the increase of the minimum coverage of the travel insurance, a number of supporting documents for the Visa application and the collection of biometric data.
The proposal is currently being discussed by the European institutions in the co-decision procedure.
HOTREC position
HOTREC shares the fears of ECTAA, EFCO&HPA, GEBTA and IRU, that these new measures could mean a decline in incoming tourists from third countries. It is also disappointing, that the European Commission didn’t look into any impacts on tourism in its impact assessment delivered to the proposal.
